Patient selection: The Single Anastomosis duodenal Ileal bypass (SADI) is for morbid obese patients a with a BMI above 50 and is especially effective for sweets eaters. It is an excellent revisional bariatric surgery after a failed sleeve gastrectomy.
Procedure: A sleeve gastrectomy is created and next a connection is made directly after the stomach between the duodenum and ileum in order to bypass the duodenum and a large part of the small bowels.
Result: Long-term average over-weight loss is around 80-85% and is effective for those who love sweets (fizzy drinks, chocolate, ice cream, chips, etc.). Big advantage in comparison to the mini-bypass is that in the SADI the connection is made after the stomach, thus reducing the chance on biliary reflux into the stomach.
Disadvantage: The stools are likely a bit softer leading to having bowel movements (stools)twice a day. Moreover, as this is a strong malabsorptive procedure it is very important to take vitamins and proteins postoperatively.
