Patient selection: The mini-bypass (one-anastomosis gastric bypass) which has become a popular procedure is mostly used for patients a with a BMI above 40-45 and is especially effective for sweets eaters.
Procedure: A long narrow stomach sleeve is created and connected with the small bowel in order to bypass the remaining part of the stomach.
Result: Long-term average over-weight loss around 70-75% and is also effective for sweet-eaters (fizzy drinks, chocolate, ice cream, chips, etc.).
Disadvantage: Occasionally, patients can have symptoms biliary gastritis (bile can reflux into the stomach), which can be treated by medications. Moreover, taking vitamins postoperatively is important.
