Patient selection: The classic (Roux-en-Y) gastric bypass is used for obese patients with a BMI above 40 who are having substantial acidity reflux.
Procedure: In this procedure a small stomach pouch (size of an egg) is created and connected with the small bowel in order to bypass a part of the remaining stomach.
Result: Long-term average over-weight loss is around 65% and is this bypass is excellent to cure complaints of severe acidity reflux.
Disadvantage: Some patients experience some bloating and occasionally cramps in the left flank. Also vitamins are advised.
