Prof. Guido Mannaerts MD, PhD, is a double Dutch board certified consultant surgeon with advanced certified training and skills in laparoscopic bariatric (weight loss) and oncology surgery.
With over 30 years of experience and having done more than 10000 surgeries he is one of the most experienced bariatric and oncology surgeon in the Gulf region. Prof. Guido provides the full range of bariatric surgical techniques including all difficult revisional bariatric surgeries, for which he is frequently the last resort to solve complex cases which are personally referred to him by other (bariatric) surgeons. He has the reputation of being a very gifted laparoscopic surgeon performing extremely safe and delicate surgery. As a consequence he has special interest for (scar-less) super minimal invasive blood less surgical approaches, leading to quick recovery, minimizes pain and an excellent cosmetic result.
Prof. Guido is using the same minimal invasive surgical approaches for his oncological surgeries on which he also has a broad experience. In his previous assignment Prof. Guido worked from 2014 to 2023 at Tawam University Hospital/ Johns Hopkins in Al Ain, where he was the head of all surgical specialties (Chairman of Surgery Department) and the lead of the bariatric unit as well as of the surgical oncology unit. During that period, as a part-time assignment, he was requested to build the bariatric program from scratch at Sh. Shakhbout Medical Center/ Mayo Clinic in Abu Dhabi (2009-2022). . Prof. Guido Mannaerts build his extensive experience as a bariatric and oncology consultant surgeon at the Sint Franciscus (Teaching) Hospital in Rotterdam, The Netherlands (2002-2014), where he realized from scratch a high volume bariatric center while being the head of General Surgery. Due to his efforts this center became the leading European training center for Enhanced Recovery After Bariatric Surgery (ERABS) training surgical teams on improving patient recovery based on the newest evidence. Moreover, as being a certified oncology surgeon dr. Guido was leading the oncology (colorectal) program for which he also introduced minimal invasive surgical approaches within a fast-recovery protocol.
He works privately as an independent consultant bariatric and oncology surgeon at Mediclinic Main Hospital in Al Ain, 360MC in Dubai and at Gulf Specialised Hospital in Muscat. Furthermore, dr. Guido is an Adjunct full Professor at the UAE University in Al Ain.
